Jamie McMurray may have established himself as the favorite to win Saturday night’s Showtime Southern 500 Sprint Cup race at Darlington Raceway by being fastest in practice on Friday and then winning the pole.
McMurray’s pole-winning speed in his Earnhardt-Ganassi Chevrolet was 180.370 mph at the 1.33-mile egg-shaped oval.
