From a racing standpoint, a race at Las Vegas is pretty much the same as a race at Charlotte. Cookie cutter single-file racing. At least Charlotte is in the racers’ backyards. But I do see Vegas as being a big destination for a lot of people. But the racing won’t be great, that’s for sure.

man i still miss dale so much, even after 12 yrs. no “lucky dog” dale drove back to get on the lead lap. it was always a joy to watch him race.

I knew Alan way back when he was racing a Hales Corners in Greenfield, WI. He was hard to get along with even then and yes, even then he did it “His Way”. I think I have every die cast, card, etc. that anyone ever produced. My pride and joy. Such a tragic ending to a brilliant career.

Thanks for the story. It is great to know folks are still working to keep the memories of this great man and race team alive. I have a ton of respect for what Alan and his team accomplished. I wish NASCAR still had truly independent teams that were competitive. Rest in peace AK.

You want a Jimmie Johnson conspiracy? The historical face of NASCAR, 7 time Cup champ Richard Petty, is old and will not be the face forever. NASCAR is going to replace the King with 8 time Cup champion Jimmie Johnson and Little France and Big Mike will get him to Living Legend status at all costs. It may take 6 or 7 years, but it WILL happen.

Jimmie, we meaningless, piss ant fans see the consistent fudging in your favor. One small example. I was in the stands at the Fall 2012 Kansas race. When you hit the wall all on your own (to the loud cheers of the fans),you came to the pits four times to fix the car under a caution (in which no debris was picked up and no repairs to the SAFER barrier were made)that went on forever. Again in the stands for Spring race, 2013 at Kansas, I saw another Cup champion, Brad K., tear up his car and was left in the pits twice by very short cautions, putting him laps down. This type of bias is consistent and and why most fans do not like you despite your tremendous talent as a driver.

So sure, take the trophy and the check. We too know what is happening and deep down, so do you.

We don’t need an “All Star Race” in this sport!

In stick and ball sports when an “All Star Game” is played it with teams made up of player of different teams; National League vs American League, AFC vs NFC & the East vs West.

With this so called All Star Race it is the same guys racing the same guys they race ever week. The only difference is that there is only money up for grabs and that it is usually a wreck fest.

The closest thing racing ever had to an Al Star Racing event was when IROC was at its peak. We had drivers from NASCAR, CART, IMSA, F1 and SCCA racing against each other in different tracks. Then IROC became what would seem to be a NASCAR driving clinic at Superspeedways, boring!

This so called “All Star” race that NASCAR puts on is boring too with its endless segments, fan vote (Danica Rule) and more money for Bruton Smith is just something NASCAR just does not need.
