So, Nascar fined Hamlin in great part for his comments about throwing cautions to bunch up cars at the end of a race to ‘make it more exciting for the fans’. As I recall, within a few hours of his comments, Michael Waltrip came out publicly and pretty much admitted that Nascar was justified in throwing those cautions to ’spice things up’. Isn’t that basically what Denny said, only pretty much admitting that not all cautions are ‘legit’? what’s the difference? Was Michael fined for violating 12-4-A? Good grief. Nascar uses that excuse so often I even know the right number for ‘…actions detrimental…’.

Having been a NASCAR fan since the 1960’s, having watched the media in general and NASCAR in particular grow increasingly negative in the last 15 years as TV exposure increased, and having been identified in print by your compatriot Lenox Rawlings as “ignorant and gullible,” I have more faith in drivers’ speaking honestly than in the media’s speaking or writing impartially. It is clear to me that a large part of the media writes first to attract attention and secondarily to be factual and objective.

NASCAR, despite being compared to MLB, NFL, etc, is nothing like those other leagues. Those leagues all report to the owners of the individual team owners. The commissioner serves at the pleasure of the team owners. NASCAR is a privately owned company. It reports to no one. There are no checks and balances in NASCAR. The only thing we had was the drivers and car owners to speak out publicly about issues that concern the sport. NASCAR has creditability issues. People don’t trust them. They have been inconsistent and secretive about issues important to the sport. They have a history of being arrogant and condescending. This past behavior calls into question all the decisions and discipline they make. Too bad too. Having been a fan for 25 years I have learned to ignore the off track crap that NASCAR causes and just enjoy the race.

Is it any wonder that Hendrick is pulling engineers and other key 5 team members from MM and assigning them to help Jr. (lost cause, if there ever was)? They are trying to make MM look like he is a has been. He could still be winning races if he was treated along the lines of JG and JJ. Of course MM still was the highest finishing Hendrick driver at the Brickyard, even with one hand tied befind his back.

I can’t see a guy like KK going into an agreement like this without knowing what he will be doing in 2011. I also can’t see from a souvenir point of view have KK in a different car in 2011 waiting for his ride in the 5.He is still one of Na$car’s cash cows. I really think this is a done deal(whatever ‘it’ is) & this is more ‘drama’ to keep the fans hanging on. Na$car is getting worse than a bad soap opera.

Though I can agree with the article, I thought the last race at the Brickyard was fairly decent compared to past races. First fifteen laps was like something out of a bad racing dream but over all I thought it was a good show.

Not to throw gas on the fire…but Martin was the one that suggested Hendrick go after Kahne to drive the car when MArk steps aside after 2011. Martin has been around the sport long enough to understand what happens to drivers who have suddenly become a lame duck for part of a season, let alone a season and a half. Surely, he didn’t expect Hendrick to not put Kahne in a ride somewhere–even if it means booting one of the current drivers.

As much as I would LOVE to see Jr. leave Hendrick, that doesn’t make sense for the long-term (since Martin would be gone after the 2011 season, anyway) or from a business perspective. I am by no means a Jr. fan, but Hendrick would be crazy to let NASCAR’s own cash cow out of the stable.

Take a look at KK’s stats. He is good, but not yet a superstar. Whether or not he becomes a superstar or not is still up for debate
I still think Mr Rick will cut a deal with JR to sell JR his share of JRM and Kasey ends up there in 11 and Mark ends up at JRM in 12..

What is that ole business slogan… you have to be willing to role over on your best friend? or something like that…

This is a business deal, Hendrick and Martin being friends really has nothing to do with it. If putting Kasey in the 5 next year is the best thing for the company it will definitely happen regardless of what Martin has to say on the subject.

I doubt Martin will be driving the 5 next year.
