Back in the day when such things were still allowed, a “sit-down” interview was held with Matt Kenseth in his hauler in the infield of a NASCAR track. Kenseth’s PR rep was more than happy to set the thing up. Kenseth, still a couple years away from winning the 2003 [...]
Jimmie Johnson topped Sprint Cup qualifying at Phoenix International Raceway.
With a record run at 139.222 mph (25.858 seconds), Johnson won the pole for Sunday’s AdvoCare 500, the next-to-last race in the 10-event Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, as the top four drivers in qualifying broke the previous mark Kyle Busch set a year ago.
Jimmie Johnson had been very un-Jimmie Johnson-like on 1.5-mile ovals this season. Thirty-three races into 2013, he had yet to win on tracks of that size. Then came Sunday’s AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway and all of that changed.

Five-time Cup champion Johnson will roll off third for Sunday’s 334-lap event. Matt Kenseth will line [...]
With chances for a Sprint Cup championship all but over, Carl Edwards hustled his way to the pole for Sunday’s race at Texas Motor Speedway on Friday afternoon.
Roush Fenway Racing’s Edwards – 10th in the 13-driver Chase and 76 points behind the leaders – beat out fellow Ford driver, Brad Keselowski of Penske Racing, in [...]

FORT WORTH, Texas – It was an unscripted moment that spoke volumes about the respectful rivalry simmering between NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship contenders Matt Kenseth and Jimmie Johnson.
Deadlocked in points heading into Sunday’s AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway, Kenseth was asked Friday morning if he knew “what [...]
As expected, Furniture Row Racing announced Friday that veteran Martin Truex Jr. will drive the team’s Sprint Cup car next season.
Truex will fill the seat being vacated by Kurt Busch, a member of this year’s Chase, who is moving to Stewart-Haas Racing in 2014.
“This is a big deal for me,” Truex said. “I’ve been impressed [...]
Late October. Generally, a rather unexceptional time of the year. Halloween? Pretty good time for little kids and raging alcoholics. The World Series? Again, a rather unexceptional time of the year, except for little kids and raging boors.
Even for race fans late October can be dreary. Sports cars and IndyCar is over, short tracks have/will [...]
