STURBIN: Stewart From Hall of Fame To Wall And Shame

FORT WORTH, Texas _ Reigning NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Tony Stewart reluctantly donned his boxing-inspired red velvet “Smoke” robe one last time Thursday night at Texas Motor Speedway, where he was honored as the track’s Racer of the Year for 2011.
And on Friday afternoon, Stewart donned a dunce cap after scraping the wall during [...]

The Best Place To Attend A Race This Week Is…

The week-long racing drought is about to succumb to a deluge of high profile events.  Fenders, no fenders, lots of turns, no turns. Almost everybody who races for a big paycheck is in action this coning weekend and that’s terrific.
Assuming our current understanding of physics is correct in that nobody can be in two places [...]

I remember being so contorted that I couldn’t see much through the back “seat” windows of that sparkling white 911, and could, basically, hear very little other than the flat-six boxing away just inches [...]

NASCAR Fashion Becoming Less Fashionable

MARTINSVILLE, Va. – Normally when covering a race I arrive at the track at least four hours before it starts in order to get pre-race work completed and avoid the traffic. However, I faced a different scenario the morning of Martinsville’s Goody’s Fast Relief 500 and that left me sitting in traffic for about 45 [...]

Flat Spot On: On The Road To IndyCar Ovals

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – It’s not surprising to hear that IndyCar is angling to extend its current contract with the Barber Motorsports Park beyond the 2013 season. The combination of the Indycars, the Grand-Am series and springtime at the beautiful Alabama facility built by George Barber are clearly a winning
combination.
So which is most decisive: the racing [...]
