Returning home after races was the toughest part for Hector Arana during the dark days of his drag racing career. Returning home race after race, year after year and having to shake his head no when his sons would excitedly ask him if he had brought them home an NHRA [...]

Edwards Put on Probation

NASCAR president Mike Helton said Tuesday that Carl Edwards will not be suspended for the on-track incident involving Brad Keselowski during Sunday’s Kobalt Tools 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
Helton said Edwards will be put on probation for the next three races.
“We take what Carl did as serious and are reacting to it accordingly,” Helton said.

It’s begun early this spring. Not the sprouting of flowers or the rising of gas prices. Rather, something more gloomy and depressing if you happen to be a NASCAR driver with hopes of winning the Sprint Cup championship.

Let’s see what’s in the morning memo today:
I see where the Olympics took a huge bite out of the Nielsen ratings for last weekend’s Sprint Cup race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The big hockey game was held in Canada that day, I believe.

No. 17 Passing Chemistry Test

The color of the car was different. The man on the pit box was different. But after that, things surrounding the No. 17 Roush Fenway Racing team of driver Matt Kenseth had a familiar look to them over the weekend.
The kind of look they had back in the days when no list of top contenders [...]

Montoya Rips Into McMurray

You’ve got to wonder how much vitriol would have flowed if Jamie McMurray and Juan Pablo Montoya were not teammates at Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing. The way it was, gallons flowed.
The two drivers collided on the race track early in Sunday’s Sprint Cup Shelby American at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Afterward, Montoya was anything but delicate with his [...]

Professional race car drivers are generally young, sometimes single and all have pockets full of folding money. The fact that they enjoy going 200 mph in cars that want to lift off the ground at 100 mph testifies to their love of excitement.
So to ask NASCAR drivers if they enjoy [...]

Speeds are up at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend. Way up. Entire miles per hour up. Speeds in qualifying and speeds in practice.
Those searching for an answer as to why, are generally hearing a five-letter word – tires.
Kurt Busch won the pole for Sunday’s Shelby American on Friday with [...]

Work Routines Being Spoiled

Which team will win the Sprint Cup championship in the coming fall? It just might be the team that is best at multitasking during the current winter.
Teams right now today – the smart ones, at least – are not only working on conquering the challenges at hand, they are also grinding away on a challenge [...]

Pedley: Bye-Bye To La La Land?

Good advice can come from some pretty unlikely sources. Like, say, the following advice:
“My grandmother had a saying: ‘Go little where wanted, go not at all where little wanted.’ ”
It’s advice that NASCAR might want to consider in the coming months. And for a couple of reasons; because of its high degree of common sense [...]
