Ingram: Car Wars Return At Sebring’s 12-Hour

By Jonathan Ingram | Senior Writer

From the Monday Morning Crew Chief™:
There was a time when I often worried about a possible conflict between the NASCAR weekend in Atlanta and the Sebring 12-hour. Before that, it didn’t matter, because I was young enough to cover the sports car endurance race on Saturday in south central Florida [...]

By Jonathan Ingram | Senior Writer

From the Monday Morning Crew Chief™:
Imagine a world where the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship this coming fall has Carl Edwards squaring off against Jimmie Johnson for the title – and winning. During this time span, Danica Patrick launches her Sprint Cup career in preparation for running for the [...]

By Jonathan Ingram | Senior Writer

From the Monday Morning Crew Chief™:
I always enjoy the buffoons who immediately condemn NASCAR racing as fixed whenever something fortuitous happens in the way of driver accomplishments. If they’re commentators on sports in general, they usually come from stick-and-ball backgrounds, don’t have to answer to race fans, don’t know a damn [...]

Daytona Beach, Fla. – From the Monday Morning Crew Chief™:
The night before the Daytona 500, I met with Tommy Byrne to talk about the American release of his book, “Crashed and Byrned” at one of the watering holes in Ormand Beach. As always, the Irishman, a retired driver who now makes [...]

Cooling Becomes The Hot Topic In Daytona

By Jonathan Ingram | Senior Writer

Daytona Beach, Fla.  –  As the temperatures climbed this week at Daytona International Speedway and the NASCAR Sprint Cup rulebook was altered almost daily, the hottest word around the garage prior to the Daytona 500 was cooling. In the new Daytona era of two-car packs, keeping the engine of the [...]

Ingram: Pod Racing – The Next Olympic Sport?

Daytona Beach, Fla. – I have seen tandem type racing and it is us.
It’s new, it’s terribly different, it’s complicated and compelling. Haven’t heard a single question about the state of the sport, slipping TV ratings, ebbing attendance. Everybody’s talking and asking about the NASCAR two-step.
If only the Daytona International [...]

By Jonathan Ingram | Senior Writer
RacinToday.com
From the Monday Morning Crew Chief™:
I’m one of those happy to see Dale Earhardt Jr. on the pole for the Daytona 500. In the coming week, it will be good for the sport of stock car racing, good for the Earnhardt family and good for the driver himself. I’m also [...]

Ingram: Summertime Blues Strike In February

From the Monday Morning Crew Chief™:
On the cusp of the new season, it’s worthwhile to ask if the changes to the points system and Chase for the Sprint Cup formats were worth the trouble?
There’s not much difference from the preceding systems after there was so much expectation built up last year by a summer-long public [...]

From the Monday Morning Crew Chief™:
Daytona Beach, Fla. – Earlier this year, driver Juan Pablo Montoya was asked if the tuft of gray he now carries on a head of otherwise dark hair resulted from the intensity of the NASCAR draft, where he makes a living as a driver for the team [...]

Daytona Beach, Fla. – It was Ponce de Leon who came to Florida in search of the fountain of youth. He might have checked with Martin Brundle first. The 51-year-old driver has returned to Daytona Beach to compete in the Rolex 24 for the first time in 20 years and found [...]
