The NFL season has not yet started but New England Patriot wide receiver Randy Moss already has a victory.

It came in Newton, Iowa on Saturday night and it came as a NASCAR-teamowner as his Camping World Truck Series team and driver dominated the Lucas Oil 200.

Behind the wheel of the Randy Moss Motorsport Toyota Tundra was Mike Skinner.

He started from the pole and led 180 of the 200 laps.

“This one is for Randy Moss,” Skinner said. “He’s a big race fan and part owner in this team with David Dollar.”

The victory was the second of the year for Skinner and the team.

It came by 1.37 seconds over Eric Almirola, who he drove away from after a restart with four laps to go.

Saturday night’s race was the first at Iowa Speedway and Skinner got a kick out of winning it.

“I’ve got a trophy at Daytona that’s huge,” Skinner said, “but we’ve been very, very blessed in our career to get the first of things. We won the first championship, we won the first points race and tonight we won the first race at Iowa. We’ve just been very, very blessed with being able to do that. I’m all for adding some more new tracks. This is pretty cool. Really, I’m all for coming back to Iowa two or three times. I just love this place.”

Skinner got a scare late in the race.

“Well, the motor died coming off of (Turn) Four there,” he said. I don’t know if it was a pick up thing or vapor lock or what it did. It just quit and it quit off of Two and then it quit off of Four. The pressure went all the way down. I think it might have boiled some fuel or something. I just nursed her along there and this thing was so fast through the corner it didn’t matter what it was doing on the straightaway.”

The final restart of the night was kind of scary, as well.

“I was really, really nervous,” Skinner said. “I started the race in the same place all night and I figured the competition would be thinking, ‘Well, he’s going to change it up. He’s going to do something different.’ So I started it in the same place. Sometimes the biggest surprise is no surprise.”

Colin Braun finished third and point-leader Ron Hornaday Jr. was fourth.

Tyler Malsam gave Moss’s team a second top-10 finish as he was 10th.

Good for Mike Skinner and Randy Moss Motorsports. I was in Martinsville in 1995 and went to the tent where Skinner was giving autographs and had the black no 3 truck there. Of course I am a Dupont High grad, like Randy , I cheer for him in Football and in racing.
