Franchitti Takes Pole At Infineon
Target Chip Ganassi Racing’s Dario Franchitti won the pole for Sunday’s IndyCar Series race at Infineon Speedway in Sonoma, Calif.
Franchitti won the pole on the final lap of Firestone Fast Six shootout with a time of 1.16.798.
Starting next to him Sunday will be Ryan Briscoe.
Action at the Infineon road course was suspended during practice earlier in the day as a crash sent two drivers to the hospital.
Injured were Will Power of Team Penske and Nelson Philippe of Conquest Racing.
Power suffered two compression fractures in his lower back and Philippe an open fracture of his left foot.
Both drivers suffered concussions.
The wreck occurred after Philippe spun his car in a blind turn. His car was then hit by those of E.J. Viso and Power.
“We never want to have to pull out of a race, especially under these circumstances,” said Conquest team owner Eric Bachelart. “While we regret not being able to participate in this weekend’s event, the most important thing is that Nelson will be alright. It was a scary incident and we wish both Nelson and Will speedy recoveries.”No Comment
