Franchitti Rolls To Pole

indycarcarDario Franchitti on Friday won the pole for Saturday night’s IndyCar Series race at Richmond International Raceway.

Franchitti edged his Target Chip Ganassi teammate, Scott Dixon, to get the pole.

The second row in the starting field will be all Team Penske. Helio Castroneves qualified third fastest and Ryan Briscoe was fourth.

Graham Rahal will start fifth.

The pole was the eighth of Franchitti’s career. It comes a week after he won the IndyCar race in Newton, Iowa.

His four-lap qualifying average speed was 167.315.

The point which Franchitti picked up by winning the pole Friday moved him to move to within two points of leader Briscoe.
