North Dakotan Donny Schatz celebrated his eighth World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Cars championship in historic fashion Saturday night at The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The veteran Tony Stewart Racing driver passed David Gravel on Lap 14 and romped to his 25th win of the season during the Bad Boy Off Road World of Outlaws World Finals.

“This is an incredible crowd and an incredible event. It’s awesome to win it,” said Schatz, who collected $12,000 for his 229th career Outlaw Sprint Car victory after the 30-lapper in Concord, N.C. “Hats off to all our guys on this race team. We have the best car-owner in the world and we try to do the best we can for him.”

Gravel held on for second ahead of Greg Hodnett, who joined Ian Madsen, Shane Stewart and Gravel as heat winners on the clay, four-tenths-mile layout. Cole Duncan captured the C-Main, Danny Lasoski prevailed in the B-Main and Gravel won the Dash.

South Carolinian Chris “Smokey” Madden withstood a furious challenge from Tim McCreadie and brought the crowd to its feet when he snapped a four-year World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Models dry spell. Madden made a three-wide pass of lapped cars with one lap to go to secure the victory over McCreadie and Don O’Neal.

“It’s just amazing,” Madden said. “(Thanks to) all the fans who came out. I have a lot of fans who come to support me and can’t travel to all the races. This great facility has an awesome crowd and we appreciate all of them. Thanks to all the people on my crew, too. They work hard every week and I appreciate it.”

West Virginia’s Josh Richards _ who set a single-season record with 18 victories but finished 12th on Saturday _ became the first driver to win four Outlaw Late Model crowns. He along with Madden, Steve Casebolt, McCreadie, Dale McDowell and Shane Clanton won heats. Jordan Yaggy, Brandon Overton and Chase Junghans claimed Last-Chance Qualifiers.

Matt Sheppard _ now a five-time Super DIRTcar Big Block Modifieds champion _swept Friday’s and Saturday’s features. Sheppard, of Waterloo, N.Y., passed Justin Haers with four laps to go Saturday to capture his 12th win of the year.

“That was a lot of fun out there. This place was so (competitive),” said Sheppard, who recorded his 47thcareer win with Pat Ward and Haers in tow. “These Big Blocks put on a real show. (Friday) night we were able to get the win and tonight it was even more satisfying. I can’t say enough about this race car. It was fantastic.”

Ward, Haers, Brett Hearn, Larry Wight and Billy Decker won heats. Keith Flach and Billy Pauch Jr. corralled B-Main wins.

Next year’s Bad Boy Off Road World of Outlaws World Finals will start on Thursday, Nov. 2, and run through Saturday, Nov. 4. The OneDirt World Short Track Championship, also at The Dirt Track at Charlotte, will kick off the two-week dirt spectacular from Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017 to Saturday, Oct. 28.
