Alex Tagliani won his fourth career NASCAR Xfinity Series pole Friday when he led qualifying for the Road America 180 at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wis.

Tagliani, the winner of the Indianapolis 500 pole in 2011, has now earned six poles in 10 career starts in the Xfinity and Camping World Truck Series.

Friday’s result marked Tagliani’s third pole for Team Penske in his fifth career start for the team.

The Canadian driver now has two career NXS poles at the 4-mile Road America circuit as he led qualifying in 2014 and finished second in the race for Team Penske.

“For us to be able to accomplish this in qualifying today is really, really good,” Tagliani said after winning the pole for Saturday’s race.

“In the Kink I got greedy a little bit. . . . The two-tenths (of a second) I lost was basically me not getting the Kink right.”

In nine career races now at Road America across NASCAR and Indy car competition, Tagliani has produced two poles and six top-five starting positions.

Qualifying second was Michael McDowell.

Justin Marks was third. Rounding out the top five were Owen Kelly and Brendan Gaughan.
