FORT WORTH, Texas – INDYCAR officials postponed Saturday night’s running of the 20th Firestone 600 after prolonged attempts to dry Texas Motor Speedway proved futile.

bugindycarThe Verizon IndyCar Series race has been rescheduled for 1:15 p.m. (CDT) Sunday. Gates, suites and Victory Lane Club will open at 11 a.m. There will be no pre-race activities, including driver introductions, prior to the start.

Fans with Saturday’s Firestone 600 tickets can use the same ticket for admission to Sunday’s event. Others interested in attending Sunday’s race can purchase tickets at Gate 4 beginning at 11 a.m.

If fans are unable to attend Sunday’s race, the unused ticket may be exchanged for another race ticket of equal or lesser value within one calendar year (1-for -1 ticket exchanges only). future date, but will be available for the rescheduled event.

The Firestone 600 will be broadcast live on NBC Sports Network and can be heard locally on 95.9 FM The Ranch and the IndyCar Radio Network (Sirius 212, XM 209) beginning at 1:15 p.m.

This marks just the second time in Texas Motor Speedway history an IndyCar Series race has been postponed due to weather. The Casino Magic 500K was originally scheduled for Saturday, June 10, 2000 and run on the following day by Scott Sharp of A.J. Foyt Racing.

In September of 2001, the Chevy 500k was postponed due to the terrorist attacks of 9/11. That race, originally scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 16, was ultimately run on Oct. 6 and won by Sam Hornish Jr., then driving for Panther Racing.

Four jet-dryers toured the track for nearly three hours in an attempt to dry the high-banked, 1.5-mile quadoval, particularly the frontstretch dogleg near the outside wall. An unexpected afternoon downpour added to the area’s unusually wet May, at one point flooding the North Tunnel.

After running a systems check in the garage area at 7 p.m., the cars never made it onto pit road. As the night wore on, many drivers accommodated fans by signing autographs.

Carlos Munoz of Andretti Autosport will lead the 22-car field from pole position in his No. 26 Honda, with defending event champion Scott Dixon of Target Chip Ganassi Racing alongside in the No. 9 Chevrolet. The race is scheduled for 248 laps/372 miles.
