FORT WORTH, Texas _ Sam Hafertepe Jr. led wire-to-wire to win Friday’s opening night ASCS Sprint Car championship program at the Texas World Dirt Track Championship at Texas Motor Speedway.

Hafertepe’s victory placed him in elite company in the history of the TMS Dirt Track. The win was the second of his career at TMS, where he joined Seth Bergman, World of Outlaws stars Danny Lasoski and Steve Kinser and the ASCS’ Jason Johnson as drivers with a pair of victories on the 0.4-mile oval.

Hafertepe took the lead from the inside of Row 2 at the start and gradually increased the advantage over the first 16 laps. A pair of cautions on Lap 17 bunched the field but no one could overtake the native of Sunnyvale, Texas.

“I feel we have the best car out here and we proved it tonight,” Hafertepe said. “We’ve put a lot of time into the car over the last few weeks and it paid off for us tonight.

“This is an awesome racetrack. It’s big and it’s fast and I think all the drivers would tell you that. I love racing here. We got a great racetrack here tonight and we were able to take advantage of it.”

Hafertepe now looms as a favorite for Saturday night’s ASCS program finale. “That would be awesome to win on back-to-back nights,” he said.

Factory Stocks and Limited Modifieds also raced Friday in preparation for their finals on Saturday. Taylor Carver, who won last fall in his Factory Stock station wagon, again is favored after prevailing in the A Qualifier. David Phillips won the same race in Limited Mods action Friday.

All three series will crown division champions Saturday, with hot laps starting at 6 p.m. (CDT) and racing beginning at 7 p.m.  Grandstand tickets for Saturday’s event are $25 for adults and $10 for children. Fans can save $5 by purchasing tickets at any participating O’Reilly Auto Parts store.  For additional information on the Texas World National Dirt Track Championship, visit www.texasmotorspeedway.com or call the TMS ticket office at (817) 215-8500
