Mercedes AMG teammates had the two fastest cars in Saturday’s qualifying session for the Bahrain Grand Prix. No surprise there. But the American Haas F1 Team again showed spunk as its two drivers both placed in the top 13 during the session at the Bahrain International Circuit.

Lewis Hamilton won the pole with a lap at 1 minute, 29.49 second lap. Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg was second with a lap at 1:29.570.

They were followed by Ferrari drivers Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen.

The Haas team, which stunned the world by scoring points in the season-opening race in Australia, saw its drivers place ninth (Romain Grosjean) and 13th (Esteban Gutierrez) in the controversial three-stage, elimination qualifying format.

Grosjean appeared to be heading into Q3 but Nico Hulkenberg’s late 1:31.604s for run for Force India saw him jump up from 11th to push Grosjean out of yet another world-stunning accomplishent in the team’s debut season.
