Jimmmie Johnson won for the third time in his last four Sprint Cup Series starts on Sunday. The latest victory came at Michigan International Speedway.

The victory was the six-time Cup champion’s first at the 2-mile MIS oval, however.

“Finally,” he tweeted after getting out of his Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet.

“Yeah, it has been,” he added about having trouble getting his first MIS win. “We have figured out every way to lose this race. And today we were able to get it done.”

Kevin Harvick of Stewart-Haas Racing finished second. A disappointing second, apparently.

“I mean, the car was fast, just wound up on the wrong side of all the strategy,” he said. “We finished second, and that’s it.”

Team Penske’s Brad Keselowski posted his third straight podium finish – he was third Sunday after second-place showings the previous two starts.

“We didn’t have the speed all weekend to be a frontrunner in the sense of contending to win based on speed,” Keselowski said, “but the guys did a great job with execution. I thought we executed really well. We had a lot of good restarts. We had solid strategy. I was talking with Joey Logano before the race about how we needed a good blue-collar day and that’s kind of what today was for us. We just kind of trudged through it and came away with another top-three effort, which is good. It’s not great. We want the wins, especially here at Michigan. That would mean a lot. We just need a little bit more speed to be able to get there.”

Paul Menard and Kasey Kahne rounded out the top five.

The finish marked just the second top-five of the season for Kahne and his Hendrick team. He was asked afterward if he thought Sunday’s run would silence some of his critics.

“Probably not all of them,” Kahne said. “And they probably don’t all need to be silenced after one good run. We were way too bad the first 14 or 15 races and hopefully this will get us going and we can get strong from here and make some points up and get in the Chase. That’s all we can really shoot for at this point.”

Points leader Jeff Gordon, who led 36 laps, placed sixth.
