Austin Dillon went out late in Friday afternoon’s qualifying session for Friday night’s pre-All-Star Race Sprint Showdown and won the pole.

Dillon nabbed the pole with a lap in 27.747 seconds at the 1.5-mile Charlotte Motor Speedway track.

Second was AJ Allmendinger and third was rookie Kyle Larson.

Rounding out the top five were Clint Bowyer and Marcos Ambrose.

The traditional single-car format was used in the session. Twenty-three cars made qualifying runs.

The Showdown will fill out the field for Saturday night’s Sprint All-Star Race. The top two finishers will advance to the big race.
