Nationwide Crew Member Suspended

| , RacinToday.com Tuesday, May 5 2009

Richard Gray, a licensed crew member for the No. 177 team in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, has been indefinitely suspended from NASCAR for violating the sanctioning body’s substance abuse policy.

On April 30, Gray was found to have violated Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing) and 7-5 (violation of the NASCAR substance abuse policy) of the 2009 NASCAR rule book.

The No. 177 team has competed in two races in 2009. Peyton Sellers has been driving the car for owners Ed Berrier and Will Spencer. Sellers finished 26th at Texas and was 19th at Richmond.

The team released the following statement:

“Cardinal Motorsports maintains a zero tolerance policy, and the crew member in question has been released from the No. 177 Nationwide Series team.  It is an unfortunate situation for everyone involved, and has been addressed expeditiously so that the team can return its focus to performance on the track.  Cardinal Motorsports respects and appreciates NASCAR’s action in this matter.”
