Phoenix Racing announced Monday that in addition to running the complete NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule with Kurt Busch, they will field the No. 1 Chevrolet in a limited amount of NASCAR Nationwide Series races.

The first of those races will be in February at Daytona.

The team plans on running all major events and are looking for sponsorship for these races.

“Everyone at Phoenix Racing is excited about competing on the Nationwide circuit this year,” said Steve Barkdoll, General Manager of Phoenix Racing. “Our Nationwide Series team is a proven, winning organization and we’re looking forward to Busch continuing the tradition. This is a great opportunity for a company to partner with a top-notch program.”

Busch, driving for Roush Racing, was the 2004 Sprint Cup champion. For the last several years he drove for Penske Racing. He competed in the 2011 Chase.

Busch and Penske parted ways in the current offseason. The parting came after a season in which the Las Vegas driver got into several verbal confrontations with the media and his own team members.

Busch signed to drive the Phoenix Cup car shortly after the end of the season.
