Unser Jr. Arrested, Suspended
Al Unser Jr. is in trouble with the law again and because of that has been suspended by INDYCAR officials.
Unser, a former winner of the Indianapolis 500 as a driver, was arrested near his home in New Mexico early Thursday morning on reckless driving and alcohol-related charges.
According to reports, Unser was clocked by sherriff’s deputies at 100 mph in his SUV. He was reportedly drag racing near his Albuquerque home in Bernalillo County.
A subsequent test by authorities reportedly revealed he had twice the legal limit of alcohol in his blood stream.
Unser has been working as an official in race control for INDYCAR.
The open-wheel series released the following statement on Thursday afternoon: “INDYCAR is aware of the charges and will not be commenting at this time. Al Unser Jr. has been suspended indefinitely and relieved of his duties in Race Control, pending further investigation.”
Unser has been in trouble with the police before on alcohol-related charges. He has undergone alcohol treatment.
Unser is a two-time winner (1992 and 1994) of the 500.One Comment
