Kurt Busch, substituting for Penske Racing teammate Brad Keselowski, won the pole on Saturday morning for Saturday afternoon’s Nationwide Series race at the Watkins Glen International road course.

Busch’s lap at 123.241 mph was a new track record.

Second fastest was Kyle Busch with a lap at 122.970 mph.

Carl Edwards finished third in qualifying and Elliott Sadler fourth. Fifth was Ron Fellows.

Rounding out the top 10 were Jimmie Johnson, Paul Menard, Joey Logano, Jason Leffler and James Buescher.

Keselowski, the defending Nationwide series champion, was injured two weeks ago in a testing wreck at Road Atlanta.

Johnson, driving for JR Motorsports, is making his first NNS start since 2008. The five-time Sprint Cup champion’s one and only victory in Nationwide came at Chicagoland Speedway in 2001 while driving for Herzog Motorsports.
