Robert Hight won the Funny Car portion of the NHRA Summer Nationals Sunday at Heartland Park Topeka. In doing so, he gave John Force his 200th victory as a team owner.

Also picking up victories in Topeka were Spencer Massey in Top Fuel and Shane Gray in Pro Stock.

That Force would get victory No. 200 was not in doubt once the semifinals were concluded. That’s because Mike Neff also won his semi, setting up an all-John Force Racing final. Hight made a pass in 4.284 seconds (264.86 mph) to get the victory.

“I came to this race 16 years ago to be a part of John Force Racing and I thought then my dreams had come true. I didn’t know what I was going to do, I didn’t care,” Hight said. “To be part of history like this, 200 wins, this is now my dream come true. This is unbelievable.”

The list of drivers who have won races for John Force Racing includes John Force (132), Tony Pedregon (27), Hight (21), Gary Densham (8), Eric Medlen (6), Ashley Force Hood (4) and Neff (2).

“It has been a crazy day,” Hight said. “One of my crew members went down second round. We backed up from the burn-out and they lifted the body. He was trying to fix something on the engine. I am not sure what it was and he got his finger caught in the blower belt. Right now he is in surgery and he is going to lose some of his thumb. It is tough when you lose a team member. Luckily, we have other teammates than can chip in and help but it is still not the same. I want to dedicate this win to him. His name is David Karcanes but we all call him Shafty. We can’t get to 201 without him. We want him to get well and get back with us quickly.”

Hight beat Johnny Gray in the semifinals and Neff ousted Jack Beckman, who won a week ago in Atlanta.

Massey got his Top Fuel win by beating Bob Vandergriff in the finals with a pass at 3.914 seconds (312.78 mph).

“We have the consistency now and that’s what it takes to do it,” Massey said.

“We’ve smoked our tires and beat ourselves at Atlanta (last weekend). We talked about getting down the track and make the other car beat us and that’s what we did (reaching the semis), and we did it again here at Topeka.”

Gray got the second victory of his career when he beat Greg Stanfield. Gray covered the 1,000 feet in 6.679 mph (206.95 mph).

“We’ve struggled pretty much since the year started, had car issues, engine issues, we just went back to the shop, regrouped, dissected the motor, dissected people, ma
