Hood: Serving Up Multiple Helpings Of Thanks
By Jeff Hood | Senior Writer
Before carving the turkey, let’s take a moment and reflect on the just-completed NASCAR season:
I’m thankful for Jamie McMurray winning the Daytona 500, just a few months after it appeared he was headed for the unemployment line.
I’m thankful Brad Keselowski wasn’t injured after Carl Edwards decided to retaliate at 190 miles per hour in Atlanta.
I’m thankful for the brand, spanking new infield media center at a very noisy Bristol Motor Speedway.
I’m thankful that the charter plane carrying several Nationwide Series crew members to Nashville in April landed safely after being struck by lightning.
I’m actually thankful for restrictor plate racing, which produced four of the most exciting races of the season at Daytona and Talladega.
I’m thankful I’m able to maintain my composure when I hear an announcer say “green flag racing.” Is there any other type?
I’m thankful for NASCAR doing the right thing and running Sprint Cup and Nationwide
Series races on the same day at Talladega and Texas after rain played havoc during both weekends.
I’m thankful for the grit and determination shown by Denny Hamlin for returning to victory lane a couple of weeks following knee surgery.
I’m thankful I was able to make the trip to Road America in June to see a monster crowd welcome the Nationwide Series to upstate Wisconsin.
I’m thankful for PRN Radio’s Doug Rice consistently getting it gramatically correct by saying “…and he’ll re-start at the the end of the longer line.”
I’m thankful Joey Logano decided this year he wasn’t going to be pushed around any more.
I’m thankful for the articulate Jeff Burton, who continues to be the best person to interview in
all of NASCAR.
I’m thankful for Boris Said and RAB Racing putting a whipping on the Sprint Cup drivers and Sprint Cup-affiliated teams at the Nationwide Series race in Montreal.
I’m thankful five classy individuals – David Pearson, Bobby Allison, Lee Petty, Ned Jarrett and Bud Moore – were voted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame.
I’m thankful for another season of hearing the ageless Barney Hall co-anchor the broadcasts on MRN Radio.
I’m thankful that drivers such as Kyle Busch, Kasey Kahne and Tony Stewart still have a strong passion for grassroots racing.
I’m thankful that Jimmie Johnson showed you can experience fatherhood and win a Sprint
Cup championship during the same season.
I’m thankful that Brad Keselowski was able to deliver a NASCAR championship for legendary car owner Roger Penske.
I’m thankful that Todd Bodine persevered and won the Camping World Truck Series without sponsorship much of the season.
I’m thankful for five-time Sprint Cup champion Jimmie Johnson making history right before our very eyes.
I’m thankful that NASCAR added Frank Caliendo to next week’s Sprint Cup banquet entertainment lineup. The guy is hilarious.
I’m thankful to be associated with RacinToday.com and Mark Armijo, Nick Bromberg, Bill Fleischman, Mike Harris, Jonathan Ingram, Rick Minter, Jim Pedley, John Sturbin and Larry Woody, arguably the greatest collection of writers in the history of motorsports.
