Texas native James Buescher claimed the pole for Saturday’s Nationwide Series race at Texas Motor Speedway with a lap at 189.281 mph on Friday evening.

Buescher, from nearby Plano, knocked Kevin Harvick off the pole late in the session.

Harvick’s fast lap was at 189.069 mph.

Carl Edwards will start third in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Challenge as he had a best lap at 188.745 mph.

Kyle Busch was fourth quickest, Clint Bowyer was fifth and Martin Truex Jr. was sixth.

Harvick, Edwards, Busch, Bowyer and Truex are all former series champions.

Brad Keselowski, the points leader and certain winner of this year’s championship was 16th fastest in qualifying. He will start the race 485 points ahead of Edwards, who is second.

Danica Patrick qualifiedd 28th fastest.
