Hamlin Wins JGR Nationwide Battle
Denny Hamlin won Saturday night’s Royal Purple 200 presented by O’Reilly Auto Parts Nationwide Series race by holding off teammate Kyle Busch after a restart with five laps to go.
Hamlin had the lead on the restart but was passed briefly by his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate. Hamlin, who led a race-best 11 lapls, quickly recaptured the lead and then began to walk away from Busch.
The final margin of victory was about 10 car lengths.
It was the ninth time the two drivers have finished first and second to each other in a Nationwide race.
Jamie McMurray, who restarted sixth, charged to a third-place finish.
“We took an average car and got a better finish out of it,” McMurray, driving for JR Motorsports, said.
Kasey Kahne was fourth and Jason Leffler fifth.
“It was a good night,” Kahne said. “We stayed off the wall. We just needed a little more to run up front with those guys (Hamlin and Busch).”
Carl Edwards sixth.
Points-leader Brad Keselowski finished seventh. His lead over second-place Busch is now 55 points. One Comment
