Kevin Harvick won the pole for Saturday’s Aaron’s 312 Nationwide Series race at Talladega Superspeedway with a lap at 187.375 mph on Friday.

Second fastest was Carl Edwards while Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Edwards’ Roush Fenway teammate, was third.

Edwards’ lap was at 185.754 mph and a half second slower than was Harvick’s.

Steve Arpin was the big surprise in the session as he qualified fourth fastest. Arpin will be making his first start in the series.

The pole was the first of the season in Nationwide for Harvick, who has won two races and is third in points. His last victory came at Nashville three races ago.

It was Harvick’s 20 career pole in Nationwide.

He has six top-five finishes in seven starts in 2010.

Series points leader Kyle Busch qualified 11th fastest.

Brad Keselowski, who is second in points and trails Busch by 20, qualified 23rd fastest.
