Jimmie Johnson was the monster of the Monster Mile on Friday as he recorded the fastest lap in practice early in the day and then went out late to post the fastest lap in qualifying.

The pole at Dover International Speedway is his second of the year. His qualifying lap took 22.878 seconds and was at 157.356 mph.

Second-fastest in qualifying was Juan Pablo Montoya.

Ryan Newman was third and Greg Biffle, the winner of last year’s fall race at Dover, was fourth.

Johnson is a four-time winner at Dover.

Points-leader Mark Martin, also a four-time winner at Dover, qualified 15th.
